GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs rounded out the non-division schedule here Thursday night against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College falling 41-7.

Neither team scored in the first quarter of play. Gulf Coast scored three times in the second quarter and led 21-0 at halftime.
Gulf Coast scored on a 72-yard passing touchdown with 12:24 left in the second quarter. They then took advantage of a Holmes fumble and raced 65 yards for the score with 9:28 left in the quarter. Just before halftime, they added a rushing touchdown. All extra points were good.
In the third quarter, Gulf Coast scored twice, once with 10:22 to play on a rushing touchdown and next on a passing touchdown with eight minutes to play. Gulf Coast hit one of two extra points.
Holmes took advantage of a Gulf Coast turnover minutes later when freshman Saidrick Pewitte intercepted Chance Lovertich and raced 88 yards for the touchdown. Easton Curry's extra point made it 34-7 with 1:55 left in the quarter.
Gulf Coast scored early in the fourth on another passing touchdown. The extra point was good.
EMCC ROLLS PAST ITAWAMBA
The sixth-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College connected on three scoring passes during the first four minutes and 26 seconds of Thursday’s MACJC North Division opener on the way to cruising to a commanding 48-3 home victory over Itawamba Community College at EMCC’s Sullivan-Windham Field.
With reigning MACJC Offensive Player of the Week Connor Neville completing his first 12 pass attempts on the night, the Lions struck on the game’s second play from scrimmage when the Washington State transfer found sophomore receiver Austin Morphis (Pontotoc) near the right sideline for a 58-yard catch and run 43 seconds into the contest.
Coach Buddy Stephens’ 2-1 EMCC Lions continue division play by traveling to Moorhead to take on the Trojans of Mississippi Delta Community College on Thursday). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jim Randall Stadium on the MDCC campus.
