JACKSON – East Webster and Eupora both had one individual champion at the MHSAA Class 2A State Powerlifting Meet Saturday at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Senior Edwin Herard won at the 198 weight class for Eupora and sophomore Cam'ron Jennings at 308-plus for East Webster.
In the team competition, East Webster was seventh with 12 points and Eupora eighth with seven points. Union won with 51 points.
Herard had lifts of 570 in the squat, 280 in the bench press and 540 in the deadlift for a total of 1,390. That was 50 pounds more than runner-up Dee Cullins of Bruce.
Jennings totaled 1,510 with a squat of 655, a bench press of 340 and a dead lift of 515. He bettered runner-up Carson Williams of Scott Central by 75 pounds.
Herard was runner-up at 181 last year. “I just like to lift,” he said. “I started lifting in the seventh grade.”
Jennings won in his first year at the state meet. He attributed his success to “practicing, dedication and listening to my coach.”
East Webster also had a second by sophomore K.T. Patterson at 123. His 835 pound total was five less than Peyton Parker of East Union.
