The Grace Christian volleyball team returns several key players from the team that finished 2018 with an 18-10 record.
“I have a lot of strong hitters,” said coach Jamey Willers. That includes junior Jasmine Kelly, who led the team in kills last year with 91. Sophomore Anna Howell, up from the junior varsity, is also counted on as a spiker.
One key will be finding a replacement for Braeden Nabers, the team's top setter last year who graduated after five years on the team. Three players – junior Bella Brownlee, senior Caroline Robbins and senior Annabelle Crowder – are candidates to replace Nabers at center.
Others who will play key roles for the Lady Eagles include senior Maggie Phillips, sophomore Carly Peterson, junior Anna Gillis, and junior Lenleigh Dobbs, a transfer from Corinth.
“She's going to be a key defensive player,” Willers aid of Dobbs.
Grace Christian opened the season Monday with a match against Nanih Waiya. The Lady Eagles will play in a tournament at Tuscaloosa Christian School of Alabama this weekend, with three matches Friday and two Saturday.
