The Grace Christian volleyball team won two matches and lost one last week. The Lady Eagles were beaten by a strong Choctaw County team 25-20, 25-20, 25-14, but rebounded a day later to with a hard fought victory over Amory Christian 25-23, 25-19, and an easy win over and Mt. Zion Christian of Magee 25-9, 25-8.
“There was some good and bad,” coach Jamey Willers said of the Choctaw County match. “I felt like our attack got more powerful.”
Maggie Phillips had three aces and six service points. Lenleigh Dobbs had six service points, seven digs and 11 service receptions, Jasmine Kelly seven kills and three blocks, Caroline Robbins seven digs, Bella Browlee led in assists with 11 and Anna Howell served five points.
Willers said her players were very focused against Amory Christian. “They came out with an attitude that they could do it. They were moving well.”
Against Amory Christian, Carly Peterson had five aces and four kills, Dobbs four digs and 11 service receptions, Annabell Crowder five assists, Phillips seven service points, Howell three kills and Kelly three blocks.
Robbins had a strong service match against Mt. Zion with six aces and 11 points. Crowder had three assists, Howell and Phillips three kills each and Kelly three blocks.
The Lady Eagles played Heritage Academy Monday and have a match at Starkville Thursday. Heritage is a rematch of a tight five set loss by Grace Christian last month. Starkville is one of the state’s strongest team, ranked sixth by the website MaxPreps, with a straight set victories over Choctaw County and Heritage.
Grace Christian’s junior varsity team will play in a tournament Saturday at Infinity Volleyball Academy in Flowood.
