Grace Christian School returns five starters from last year's team that finished 20-2 and won the Christian and MSAHA tournament.
“I feel like we will compete well,” said coach Ralph Goss.
Returning starters are:
— Senior utility man Clay Crowder, who batted .366 last year. “He can play anywhere except catcher,” Goss said.
— Junior shortstop and pitcher Alex Taylor. He batted .423 and was 1-0 in limited mound duty.
— Sophomore third baseman and pitcher Grant Bontrager. He batted .538 and was 2-0.
— Senior pitcher and centerfielder Brandon Mast, a .333 hitter last year. He will be the No. 1 starter after going 5-0 and allowing 7 runs in 33 innings.
— Sophomore Wes Agnew, a .270 hitter. He played mostly in the outfield last year but will be behind the plate this spring.
Goss feels pitching will be the team's strength. The first game will be Feb. 27 at Starkville Christian.
Goss is a member of the Winston County Board of Supervisors. His assistant coach is James Matthews.
Baseball is Grace Christian's only spring sport.
