For the majority of Friday’s game against Pearl, the East Webster Wolverines were headed for a loss.
But the Wolverines got a three-run home run from Hastings Gibson in the bottom of the seventh and then scored a walk-off run in the eighth to take a 4-3 win over the Class 6A Pirates.
East Webster, now 2-3 on the season, has a full slate of games this week as they will host Kosciusko on Monday and host Northside in a doubleheader on Friday. On Saturday, East Webster will travel to Decatur and take on Newton County at 11 a.m. and then play Morton at 1:30 p.m.
The Wolverines scored in the bottom of the eighth and took a come-from-behind win over the Pirates on Friday.
Pearl scored one in the second and two in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead into the seventh. The Wolverines tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run home run by Hastings Gibson. The Wolverines then took the win in the seventh as Jase Grantham doubled and scored on a single by Jon Austin Roberts.
The Wolverines had seven hits in the contest as Roberts was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Sloan Hillhouse also singled and scored while Wes Silver also had a double.
Gray McCarter pitched three innings and gave up one run on four hits while striking out one. Roberts pitched the next three innings and gave up two runs on two hits. Kainan Reed pitched a scoreless inning while Silver pitched the final inning and picked up the win.
