French Camp honored its athletes for the 2018-19 school at the annual banquet.
“There were a lot of positives,” said athletic director Rusty McKnight. “We outperformed what people expected in some sports.” He mentioned football and baseball teams making the 1A playoffs.
“We had several kids competing well at the state (track) meet. Girls basketball was much better than last year.”
The boys and girls track teams both finished eighth at the 1A meet. Also, both teams were fifth in cross country.
Coaches presented the following awards to their athletes:
Baseball – All Region 5-1A – Holman Edwards, Phillip Lucas, Seth Box and Bradley Edwards.
Boys basketball – Best All Around – Calvin Johnson. Hustle Award – Ethan Chesser. Newcomer Award – Jacob Lewis. Most Improved – Coleman Mackenzie. All District – Clayton Leathers. Panther Award – Cameron Smith
Girls basketball – 5-1 All Division - Madison Klein and Jasmine Bonty. Lady Panther Award - Grace Hunt. 5-1A Sportsmanship - Jordan Carter.
Cheerleading – Panther Award – Mallory MacKenzie. Spirit Stick – Emory Peacock.
Boys cross country – Panther Award – Peter Clark.
Girls cross country – Panther Award – Ami Sherrif.
Fast-Pitch softball – Offensive Player – Aubrey Burrell. Defensive Player – Abby Leathers. Most Improved and Lady Panther Award – Emory Peacock.
Football – Region 3-1A MVP – Holman Edwards. All Region – Clayton Leather, Phillip Lucas, Zach Gilmer, Bradley Edwards and Jason May.
Slow-pitch softball – Offensive Player - Maci Grice. Defensive Player - Abi McDaniel. Most Improved – Layla Buie. Lady Panthers Award – Laney Scott.
Tennis – Varsity Most Improved – Peter Clark. JV Most Improved - Kate Hudson.
Boys track – Panther Award - Colby Walters.
