Former Mississippi State and National Football League running back Michael Haddix will serve as the keynote speaker for the 5th annual On My Honor Luncheon for Scouting on May 9.
The annual fundraiser for the Pushmataha Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be held at noon at The Mill at MSU Conference Center. The Pushmataha Area Council serves 10 counties, including Choctaw County.
In addition to raising money that will help provide leadership programs to more than 900 youth in 10 east Mississippi counties, the event will honor three scouting alumni who have made significant impacts in the community.
Haddix was a standout running back for the Bulldogs from 1979-82. He twice earned All-SEC honors while rushing for 2,558 career yards, which ranks fifth on the MSU career rushing list. His average of 6.0 yards per carry is the most among any MSU running backs with a minimum of 400 attempts. Following his career with the Bulldogs, the Walnut native was drafted in the first round of the 1983 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He went on to play eight years of professional football with the Eagles and the Green Bay Packers. Since his retirement from football, Haddix has focused on charitable and business endeavors.
The honorees for the On My Honor Luncheon include Ben Rosenkrans of Clay County, the late Jimmy Galloway of Lowndes County and the late John Robert Arnold of Oktibbeha County.
