French Camp senior Holman Edwards has been named Region 3-1A Most Valuable Player.
Edwards, a quarterback and defensive back, completed 81 of 150 passes for 1,111 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran 129 times for 778 yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense, he had 35 tackles, four interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Five Panthers – senior Zach Gilmer, senior Clayton Leathers, senior Jason May, senior Phillip Lucas and junior Bradley Edwards, were named to the all region team by region coaches.
Gilmer, a running back and linebacker, carried 108 times for 591 yards and seven touchdowns and had 57 tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery. As a receiver and defensive back, Leathers had 15 receptions for 327 yards and four TDs. On defense, he had a team leading 89 tackles, with five for losses, one interception and a fumble recovery.
May played offensive tackle, defensive end and was the Panthers’ long snapper. He had 24 tackles, with three for losses, recovered a fumble and caught a 36-yard pass.
Lucas was a two-way lineman with 22 tackles, four for losses. Bradley, a linebacker and receiver, had 88 tackles, five for losses, and nine receptions for 149 yards and four TDs.
French Camp finished 7-5, including 6-2 for third place in the region. The Panthers lost to Stringer in the opening round of the playoffs.
