The French Camp slow-pitch softball team dropped its first two games of the season 4-2 to Vardaman and 10-5 to Calhoun City.
The Lady Panthers outhit Vardaman 11-5. “We played well. We just didn't have timely hits,” said coach Todd Chesser.
French Camp took a 1-0 lead against Vardaman in the first inning when Emma Wright walked and scored on a single by Kalee McDaniel. The score remained 1-0 until Vardaman bunched four hits for four runs in the fifth.
French Camp scored its second run in the seventh when Haleigh Outlaw singled and scored on a single by Brianna Grice. McDaniel and Grice both had three hits.
Calhoun City broke open the game with six runs in the third on three homers and four French Camp errors for a 7-0 lead. The Lady Panthers had seven hits, led by Outlaw with a single and a double. Cadance Tiller had a double and Abby Leathers drove in three runs.
French Camp has a game at Columbus Thursday and will play in a tournament at Eupora Saturday. The tournament was scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed by rain.
