The French Camp Academy football team will have three new opponents next fall due to the move from Mississippi High School Activities Association Region 3-1A to Region 2-1A. Okolona, Tupelo Christian and Smithville replace Ethel, Sebastopol and Leake County.
The schedule will again begin with two games against Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) opponents, Winona Christian and Starkville Academy. Five other teams also remain on the schedule because those schools – Nanih Waiya, West Lowndes, Noxapater, Hamilton and Vardaman – will also move to 2-1A.
French Camp coach Nathan Wright noted that the three new teams all participated in the MHSAA 1A playoffs in 2018, with Smithville reaching the North State final. “It’s always encouraging to see three more playoff teams move into your division,” he said.
Nanih Waiya won the state championship.
The Panthers are coming off a 7-5 season that included a third place finish in 3-1A and an opening round playoff loss to Stringer.
Playoffs begin November 15 with the top four teams from the region qualifying.
