French Camp managed only 72 yards of offense in losing to Noxapater 39-7 last Friday night. Noxapater is the state's second ranked 1A team behind Nanih Waiya by the Clarion-Ledger and fourth by the website MaxPreps.
The Panthers had 63 yards on the ground, led by Phillip Caradine with 10 carries for 38 yards. Quarterback C.J. Johnson completed one pass to Bradley Edwards for nine yards and ran seven times for 22 yards. Edwards led the defense with 11 tackles and Johnson had an interception.
French Camp trailed only 14-7 after one quarter on a touchdown run by Caradine and a PAT by Rob Surrette, but was held scoreless the rest of the game.
Noxapater did most of the damage on the ground, running for 293 yards to go along with 19 yards through the air. Quarterback KD Carter carried 10 times for 150 yards to go over 1,000 for the season and Raheem Hathorn had 15 carries for 115 yards and two TDs.
French Camp dropped to 1-7 and 1-4 in Region 2-1A. Noxapater is 6-2 with the losses coming against Nanih Waiya and Starkville Academy.
The good news for French Camp is that the Panthers have completed the toughest part of the region schedule, with losses to Noxapater, Nanih Waiya, West Lowndes and Tupelo Christian, along with a victory over Okolona.
The Panthers are off this week, then will complete the regular season at home against Hamilton
Oct. 25, at Vardaman Nov. 1, and against Smithville at home Nov. 8. MHSAA Class 1A State Playoffs begin Nov. 15.
