French Camp cross country closed out the season with a third place finish by the girls and a fourth place finish by the boys at the 1A state meet Monday at Choctaw Trails.
“Everybody ran well today,” said coach Joe Watkins. “It was hard not to get too excited and go out too fast. We have young girls who had never run in a state meet before so I’m nothing but grateful.”
The French Camp girls just missed getting the runner-up trophy, finishing with a team score of 63, five more than second place Myrtle. Tupelo Christian had three of the top four runners and easily won a fourth consecutive championship with 28 points.
The boys finished with 96 points, trailing Tupelo Christian, which won for the third time in four years with 20 points, Tremont 83 and Hickory Flat 93.
