WINONA – The French Camp boys finished first at the Region 3-1A track meet Monday and the girls were second. Led by senior Colby Walters, the boys finished with 117 points, 24 more than runnerup West Lowndes. The girls had 104 points, 39 fewer than Vardaman 39.
Choctaw County was third in the 2-3A boys meet and ninth in the girls competition. The boys had 70 points, trailing Winona with 103 and Water Valley with 94. The girls had 13 points.
For the French Camp boys, Walters won the 400, 800 and 1600 and anchored the winning 1600 relay team. Teammate Adlai Urbina was second in the 400 and 800. James Fowler won the discus,
French Camp girls were led by senior Ami Sherrif, and freshman Jasmine Bonty. Sherrif won the 800 and 1600 and anchored the winning 1600 relay team. Bonty swept the weight events with victories in the shot put and discus.
Israel Whitmore led the Chargers, taking first in the shot put, third in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump. The Lady Chargers did not have any individual winners.
The top four in each 1A event qualify for South State meet Saturday at Madison Central and the top four in 2-3A qualify for the North State meet Saturday at Potts Camp.
Other French Camp boys who qualified: Jake Seawright, second in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles; Phillip Carradine, fourth in the 100, fourth in the 200 and fourth in the long jump; Josh Deal, second in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600; Eric McKinney, fourth in the 3200; and the 3200 relay team anchored by Urbina was third.
French Camp girls who qualified: Avery Jane Gundy, second in the 800 and second in the1600; Maddi Davis, third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 hurdles: Tessa Mullins, third in the 3200;
For the Choctaw County boys Julius Buggs was fourth in the shot put and fourth in the discus; Julian Foreman took fourth in the triple jump, Trenton McGee was fourth in the pole vault and the 1600 relay team was fourth.
Fannie Miller qualified for the Lady Chargers with a fourth place finish in the 100.
