The East Webster Wolverines only got in one game last week but it was a good one.
The Wolverines got the better part of a pitcher’s duel as East Central Community College signee Walker Johnson threw a one-hit 1-0 shutout of Bayside Academy on Monday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
East Webster’s other scheduled game last week with French Camp was postponed due to rain.
East Webster, now 5-3, will return to play this week as they begin division 2-2A play as they are scheduled to play at Winona on Tuesday and Friday. They will also host Choctaw County on Thursday and then host Newton County at 11 a.m. on Saturday and then Corinth at 3 p.m.
In their only game of the week to finish up a three-game set at Gulf Shores, the Wolverines got a dominant pitching performance from Walker Johnson.
Johnson pitched a complete game one-hitter as he struck out a season-high 13 and scattered four walks to take the win.
East Webster had just four hits and didn’t break the scoreless tie until the top of the seventh. Wes Silver scored East’s only run as he reached on a walk and came around on a sacrifice by Sloan Hillhouse.
Cameron Pilgrim, J.T. Slay, Jon Austin Roberts and Art Thompson each had singles for the Wolverines.
