Two weeks into the season, Eupora is off to a fast start and they’re setting the table for the rest of the season in a big way.
There was a set back against Ethel squeezed between two big wins last week as the Eagles moved to 3-1 on the season. Eupora knocked off Vardaman 10-0 on Tuesday, dropped a tough outing to Ethel 14-2 on Friday and went to West Point to grab a nice 12-1 win to cap things off in what was all together a successful week.
Against Vardaman, the Eagles would have only needed one run with how effective Cade Adkins and Chris Robinson were on the mound. Adkins threw 4.0 shutout innings with six strikeouts and Robinson had a perfect fifth inning to provide the run-rule as the two combined to surrender just two hits.
While the pitching and defense was strong, the offense was even better. Eupora scored six runs in the first two innings and added four more in the fifth to put the run-rule in effect. Seven of the nine batters got hits. Carter May led the way with three RBI and a double while Avery Tollison drove in two runs.
Reed Hale walked three times as the story for the Rams were the 12 free passes they had as four different players reached multiple times via the walk.
The script flipped in the game against Ethel as the Tigers pounded out 15 hits and run-ruled the Eagles in just four innings. The damage was mostly done in a rough first frame when the Eagles gave up 11 runs as Tanner Fletcher surrendered seven earned runs on five hits and three walks in 0.1 innings. Carter May threw 3.0 innings of relief and gave up five more earned runs while Parker Knight got the last two outs of the game.
The offense went silent for the Eagles as they had just two hits.
A game was needed to flush that bad taste from the Ethel game and Eupora got it on the road at West Point on Saturday. Adkins and Robinson proved to be tough once again on the mound as they threw the 5.0 innings played with five scattered hits and just one run surrendered.
Eupora scored in each of the first four innings putting up four runs in the top of the first to set the tone and they were up 7-0 after two innings. They added four more runs in the fourth inning and held West Point down in the fifth to get the run-rule.
Knight and Ty Murphy each had two hits with Knight producing three RBI and a double. Hale also knocked in three runs.
The Eagles were supposed to play French Camp Academy on Monday but that game got rained out. They had Choctaw County in Ackerman scheduled for Tuesday weather permitting as well as a road game at FCA on Friday at 6 p.m. and they’ll host Houston on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a rematch from the Eagles’ season-opening 4-2 win on the road.
