After struggling through the first nine games with just one win, the East Webster Wolverines grabbed two much-needed wins last week.
The Wolverines beat rival Eupora 59-37 and also took a 55-30 win over Vardaman.
The Lady Wolverines split their two games, beating Eupora 50-33 but falling to Vardaman 61-54.
“I thought the guys played a lot better this week,” East Webster coach Jon Ginn said. “We have played some tough opponents and a couple of those games we could have won. We played a lot better this week and they were doing the everyday things that you need to do to wins games.”
Eupora has a full slate of games this week as they were set to host Nanih Waiya on Monday and Ethel on Tuesday. They will also host New Site on Friday to finish out the week.
East Webster boys 59, Eupora 37
The Wolverines overcame an early deficit to pull away and take a 22-point win over the Eagles.
Eupora led 14-12 at the end of the first period before East Webster outscored the Eagles 19-5 to take a 31-19 lead at the half. East Webster continued to expand its lead in the second half, outscoring Eupora 16-11 in the third and 12-7 in the fourth.
Reid Gatlin led East Webster with 13 points while Sedrick Taylor had 12 points. Blake Slayed had eight points while Cael Chrismond added seven points.
Walker Mitchell led Eupora with 16 points while Mark Pass and Zak Morris each had six points apiece.
East Webster girls 50, Eupora 33
The Lady Wolverines outscored the Lady Eagles in every period and pulled away late to take a 17-point win to open division 2-2A play.
East led 11-10 at the end of the first and 26-21 at the half. East pulled away in the second half as they outscored Eupora 17-9 in the third and 7-3 in the fourth to take the win.
Shameriah Culpepper led East Webster with 10 points while Meri-Grace Gregg had nine points. Shamia Culpepper and Lauren Graves each had eight points while Jaden Johnson added six points.
M’Nyia Young led Eupora with 14 points while Nadia Coffey added seven points.
East Webster boys 55, Vardaman 30
The Wolverines dominated the first three periods and took a 25-point win over the Rams.
East Webster led 20-13 at the end of the first and outscored Vardaman 14-3 in the second to lead 34-16 at the half. East continued to pull away and outscored Vardaman 21-6 in the third to lead 55-22.
Reid Gatlin led East Webster with 18 points while Sedrick Taylor had 12 points. Nash Caldwell also had seven points.
Vardaman girls 61, East Webster 54
With two starters out with injuries, the Lady Wolverines struggled as the Lady Rams took a seven-point win.
East led 12-11 at the end of the first but trailed 24-22 at the half. Vardaman outscored East Webster 19-14 in the third to lead 43-36. Each team scored 18 in the fourth for the final margin.
Shamia Culpepper led East Webster with 20 points while Shameriah Culpepper added 17 points. Meri-Grace Gregg added seven points.
