The East Webster Lady Wolverines ran into one of the hottest teams in the Class 2A, losing both games to Philadelphia last week in the second round of the playoffs.
Philadelphia took game 1 of the series, winning 3-2 after scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Lady Tornadoes then took game 2 of the series 6-1.
East Webster on their opening-round series over Walnut as they won 14-0 in game 1 and 7-3 in game 2.
East Webster finishes the season with a 14-5 record.
Philadelphia 6, East Webster 1
The Lady Tornadoes got a dominating effort from Nia Luckett to sweep the Lady Wolverines on Saturday.
Philly scored one in the first and East tied it with one in the bottom of the second. Philly then took the lead for good with two in the top of the third and finished off with three runs in the seventh for the final.
East Webster loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but failed to score as Philly took the series win. Abby Williams had a double for East Webster while Emma McKee had an RBI single that scored Whitney Winter.
Liz Massey pitched all seven innings for the Lady Wolverines and took the loss.
Philadelphia 3, East Webster 2
The Lady Tornadoes scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a Game 1 win over the Lady Wolverines on Friday.
Philly scored one in the third inning. East answered with a run in the fourth as Curtlyn Blake reached on an infield single. Katelee Box then doubled to put runners at second and third. Blake then scored on a groundout by Josie Reed to tie the game at 1-1. East put on two runners in the top of the seventh but didn’t score as the went to extra innings. In the eighth, Emma McKee was placed on second in the international tiebreaker. Sidney Dewberry advanced the runner to third on a groundout to second and McKee scored on a single by Peyton Flora. But the Lady Tornadoes scored two in the bottom of the eighth to take the win.
East Webster outhit Philly 7-6 in the contest, led by Winter who was 2-for-3 in the game. Box had a double while Blake and McKee each singled and scored. Flora also singled and had an RBI.
Liz Massey pitched all 7 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six.
East Webster 7, Walnut 3
The Lady Wolverines used a pair of three-run innings to take a four-run win and take the series win over Walnut on Tuesday.
East scored one in the first, followed by three in the second and fourth innings. Walnut scored two in the fourth and one in the seventh.
East outhit Walnut 12-8 in the contest. Abby Williams was 3-for-3 with two doubles while Katelee Box and Josie Reed were each 2-for-2 and scored a run while Box had a double. Sydney Dewberry doubled and had two RBIs while Coy Jennings had two RBIs.
Liz Massey pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five.
East Webster 14, Walnut 0
The Lady Wolverines got a no-hitter from Liz Massey and took a five-inning, run-rule win over Walnut on Monday in the first game of the series.
East scored two in the second and fourth, three in the third and seven in the fifth.
East Webster had nine hits and had five reach on errors. Coy Jennings was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Sydney Dewberry was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs while Abby Williams was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Katelee Box was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Curtlyn Blake had a double and scored runs scored.
Massey was dominant in five innings in the circle, allowing just two walks while striking out 11.
