When East Webster and Eupora meet on the softball field, it’s always going to be a tight contest.
The Lady Wolverines scored two runs late and held off the Lady Eagles to take a 12-11 win over Eupora on Wednesday.
Eupora took the first contest between the two teams, winning 7-6.
East Webster is now 11-4 on the season while Eupora is 7-8 on the year. East Webster will finish up its regular season on Tuesday as they host Louisville. Eupora will travel to Calhoun City on Monday and host Leflore County on Tuesday in a doubleheader.
Because of the split and each team winning by one run, Eupora must beat Calhoun City by 10 runs to win the Division 2-2A championship. If Eupora wins by less than nine, East Webster will be the division champions. If Eupora wins by exactly nine runs, the tiebreaker will go to a run differential against Bruce.
East Webster 12, Eupora 11
In another classic Webster County showdown, it was East Webster that took a one-run win over Eupora on Wednesday.
Eupora scored two in the first and three in the second while East scored two in the second as the Lady Eagles led 5-2. But East Webster scored six runs in the fourth to go up 8-5. Eupora scored two in the bottom of the fifth to cut the score to 8-7 before East responded with two in the top of the sixth to stretch the lead to 10-7. Eupora answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 11-10 lead into the top of the seventh. East then scored two runs in the top of the seventh as Curtlyn Blake scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.
East Webster outhit Eupora 13-9 in the contest. Whitney Winter led East Webster at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, triple, three runs scored and three RBIs. Blake was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Abby Williams was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Josie Reed had two walks and two RBIs while Peyton Flora walked twice and scored two runs.
Marleigh Abbott was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Eupora while Alley Reed was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Rylee Brooke Crowell was also 2-for-4 while Kylie Richardson had two RBIs and Haylee McCrory scored two runs.
Liz Massey pitched all seven innings for East Webster and gave up just one earned run on nine hits and three walks.
Harper Doggett pitched the first six innings for Eupora while Meleah Pogue pitched the seventh for the Lady Eagles.
Eupora 12, Bruce 2
The Lady Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead and cruised to a 10-run win over the Lady Trojans on Friday.
Eupora scored two in the first, six in the second, one in the fourth and sixth and finished with two in the second. Bruce scored two in the third inning.
Eupora outhit Bruce 14-3 in the contest.
Addison Mason was 3-for-5 in the contest while Kylie Richardson was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Haley Farley was 2-for-5 with two runs scored while Marleigh Abbott and Haylee McCrory each had two hits. Meleah Pogue also had two RBIs.
Harper Doggett pitched four innings and gave up two unearned runs on three hits and two walks. Pogue pitched the last three inning, giving up just one walk and striking out two.
