East Webster boys basketball coach Jon Ginn almost got everything he wanted for Christmas.
The Wolverines won two of three games last week in their own tournament. The Wolverines opened with a 50-44 win over J.Z. George and then beat Pillow Academy 57-50 to advance to the finals. There, the Wolverines lost 75-62 to Louisville.
Despite the loss, coach Jon Ginn liked what he saw against the Class 4A Wildcats.
“The Louisville game was a lot closer than it looked,” Ginn said. “It was a 10-point game and we got it down to five at one point and missed a good look at a three. We had our chances and then with about four minutes, we had to decide if we were going to try to win or just settle for making it close. I give Louisville credit, they made a couple of shots and hit their free throws. They are a good team and very athletic. They were a great opponent to go against and that helps prepare us for division play.”
The Wolverines move to 10-6 on the season. They will return to action on Friday, Jan. 4 as they host Calhoun City in a Division 2-2A contest. The following week, East will host Bruce on Tuesday, Jan. 8 and then travel to Eupora on Friday, Jan. 11.
