The East Central Community College tennis teams dropped a pair of road matches to MACJC foe Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
The ECCC women lost a 7-2 match to Co-Lin to fall to 1-1 on the season. The East Central men are now 0-2 after losing a 6-3 match to the Wolves.
On Friday the ECCC women’s tennis team took a 9-0 win at Itawamba Community College in Fulton. The ECCC men lost a tough 6-3 match to the ICC Indians.
The Lady Warriors were swept in the doubles matches as EC’s Gabriela Gomez (Bogota, Columbia) and Tatiana Quinonez (Bogota, Columbia) fell to Gyselle Daza/Carmen Manicea, 8-6; EC’s Alexis Tindall of Newton County Academy and Caylee Grace Yarborough of Loyd Star lost to Kara Clark/Katy Clark, 8-1; and EC’s Julia Johnston of Florence and Sara Mazzella of Newton County Academy fell to Faith Bergeron/Ashlyn Locke, 8-6.
In the singles, Gomez lost to Daza, 6-1, 6-0; Quinonez lost to Manicea, 7-5, 6-4; Tindall lost to Katy Clark, 6-4, 6-4;Yarborough fell to Kara Clark, 6-1, 6-4; Bethany Wellerman out of Newton County Academy beat Locke, 6-0, 2-6, 10-3; and Johnston defeated Madison Franklin, 6-1, 6-4.
In the men’s doubles action, ECCC’s Tom Langelaar (Veldhoven, Netherlands) and Joseph Jabour of Warren Central lost to Sebastian Osorio/Juan Pinilla, 8-2; EC’s Willie Wooten of Warren Central and Landon Gibson of Clarkdale defeated Tripp Wyatt/Sebastian Harrell, 8-3; and EC’s Emontie Lewis of Terry and Jake Wofford of East Webster lost to Tripp Case/Braden Ishee, 8-2.
In the singles, Langelaar lost to Osorio, 6-3, 6-4; Wooten lost to Pinilla, 6-0, 6-0; Jabour defeated Wyatt, 6-0, 6-4; Lewis lost to Case, 6-1, 6-1; Gibson lost to Ishee, 6-0, 6-2; and EC’s Isaac Keen of Winston Academy defeated Bishop Barlow, 6-4, 6-2.
“The women put together a great match,” said ECCC head coach Jay Pacelli of the win over Itawamba.. “They came out determined after a tough loss last week to Co-Lin. It was a terrific bounce-back victory.”

In the women’s singles, EC’s Gomez defeated Kaitlyn Meadows, 6-1, 6-2; EC’s Quinonez beat Gillentine, 6-1, 6-0; EC’s Tindall defeated Mayhall, 6-4, 2-6, 12-10;EC’s Yarborough beat Caroline Ferguson, 6-3, 6-1; EC’s Bethany Wellerman out of Newton County Academy beat Claire Ferguson, 6-1, 6-0; and EC’s Johnston defeated Campbell, 6-0, 6-4.
