Alcorn State (7-3) and Jackson State (4-7) meet in the “Soul Bowl” Saturday afternoon at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Alcorn won a last second thriller over Alabama State to wrap up its sixth straight Western Division SWAC title. Jackson State dropped a 40-34 home decision to Southern (La.) University on Saturday.

HONORED
Zoe Ellis of Holmes Community College took home MVP honors in the MAJC All-Star Women’s Soccer game played last week at the Ridgeland Campus of Holmes CC.
Ellis scored one of the North’s goals in its 5-3 loss to the South. Also scoring for the North were Ally Shinall of Itawamba and Cheyenne Smith of Northwest.

MC WINS HERITAGE BELL
This past Saturday Mississippi College (5-5) knocked off Delta State (6-4) for the first time since 1993. The loss ended a seven-game winning streak the Statesman had over the Choctaws. The loss also ended any playoff hopes DSU might have had.
MC used the convincing 37-13 home win to close out the regular season with a 5-5 record.

HCC MEN ROLL
The Holmes Community College Bulldogs went to 2-2 on the season last Thursday night with an 87-75 win over the visiting Hinds Community College Bulldogs.
Kaleb Higgins led the Bulldogs with 18 points while Tyler Williams had 13, Lester 12, Jamarrion Brown 11 and Talley 10. Higgins had eight rebounds and 10 assists in the contest for a double-double.
This week Holmes hosted East Central on Monday before entertaining Baton Rouge on Thursday.

HOMECOMING AT MSU
Two home games remain on the regular season slate for Mississippi State football as the Bulldogs host Southland Conference foe Abilene Christian at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium. Head coach Joe Moorhead previewed the Homecoming contest at his weekly press conference on Monday.

HILL NAMED NORTH MVP
East Central Community College sophomore midfielder/defender Joel Hill was named the Most Valuable Player of the North squad in the 2019 MACJC Soccer Sophomore Men’s All-Star Match played Saturday, Nov. 16, on the Ridgeland Campus of Holmes Community College.
Hill, who prepped at Newton County High School, was named MACJC All-Conference at the conclusion of the 2019 season. He was one of three Warriors in the All-Star match. The South men defeated the North men 4-1. East Central midfielder Jake Cockroft of Kosciusko scored the North’s only goal.

LADY BULLDOGS FALL 47-46
The Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker here Thursday night to the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs, 47-46.
Holmes was se to host East Central on Tuesday and Baton Rouge on Thursday. Jordyn Manning and Tamaya Redd each had nine points in the game. Gabrielle Bunch and Brysa Maxwell each had six rebounds while Redd had five.
