Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke should have said this after his team’s 40-29 lackluster performance against SE Louisiana last Saturday: “It’s always good to get an ugly win rather that a pretty loss.” The Rebels (2-1) did some good things as they ran the ball 50 times as they controlled the clock, but they did not control the pace of the game as Southeastern hung around until late in the contest. The defense was exposed in the secondary, and the offense was inconsistent up front. Freshman running back Jerrion Ealy accounted for 273 total yards, which included a 94-kickoff return. Next up is a Top 25 team in California this Saturday morning.

PASSES FLYING EVERYWHERE IN USM WIN
Southern Miss (2-1) was impressive in its high scoring 47-42 win at Troy on Saturday evening. The teams combined for over 1,000 yards passing in the contest. Quarterback Jack Abraham threw for 463 yards and two touchdowns while receiver Jaylond Adams finished with 322 all-purpose yards as he caught 11 passes for 180 and 141 return yards, which included a 100-yard kickoff return. Next up for USM is Alabama.

QUESTION MARKS ABOUND FOR MSU
Mississippi State (2-1) enters SEC play this Saturday afternoon against Kentucky with several question marks. Most MSU football fans did not expect the loss to Kansas State. Several things could have contributed to the ending result last Saturday, including injuries to several key playmakers and the ongoing suspension process that began at the start of the season.

JSU SNAPS STREAK AGINST TSU
Jackson State downed Tennessee State, 49-44, in a game played in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. The win snapped a six-game losing streak in this Southern Heritage Classic. More importantly, they won the Band Contest. In other college games, Millsaps and Mississippi College won while Alcorn, Belhaven and Delta State lost. Mississippi Valley was off this weekend.

HCC LADY BULLDOGS TAKE TWO WINS
Two Holmes Community College Lady Bulldog soccer players -- sophomore Zoe Ellis and freshman Cariel Ellis -- scored four goals each in today's 15-0 win over Dyersburg State on the Ridgeland Campus.
They each added an assist to go with their four goals. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-1 overall. Holmes travels to Gulf Coast on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a non-division match.
In action on Friday, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Hinds, 7-1 to improve to 4-0 in the North Division.
In the match, Z. Ellis and C. Ellis each had two goals.

RAGIN’ CAJUNS POST RECORD-SETTING WIN
It was a busy night at Cajun Field for Louisiana-Lafayette, which set two new school records and narrowly missed out on a third in a dominant 77-6 victory over Texas Southern at Cajun Field on Saturday night.
Louisiana's (2-1) offense was firing on all cylinders, scoring touchdowns on 11 of its 13 possessions en route to setting school records for most points scored in the modern era (77) and largest margin of victory (71), while falling 11-yards shy of the record for total offense with 748.
Former Choctaw County Standout Ja’Marcus Bradley caught three passes for 52 yards to lead all receivers.
