Rakeim Ashford was named to the Region 4-3A Super 26 offense after totaling 803 yards and 10 touchdowns running and receiving for Choctaw County. But he will continue his football career on the defensive side of the ball.
Ashford has signed with JonesCollege out of Ellisville as a defensive back, and that’s fine with him. “I want to play defense,” he said during a signing ceremony in the school library.
He chose Jones because it is the school that recruited him the longest.
“Rakeim is a really, really good athlete,” said Choctaw County coach Ben Ashley. “He can play any offensive position other than quarterback at the next level. He can also play at the back end in the secondary.
“Jones County is getting a guy who has a high upside. He’s still just a baby. He’s 17 years old. His best football is in front of him.”
Ashford helped Choctaw County go 18-7 the last two years, with a Region 4-3A championship in 2017 and runner-up finish in 2018.
