IUKA – The Choctaw County boys track team won the District 4-3A meet last week and the girls were runners-up.
The boys won six events and 102 points to 75 for runner-up Water Valley. They were followed by Aberdeen with 44 points, Houston with 24, Hatley and Nettleton with 10 each.
The girls won seven events while compiling 57 points, 11 less than Water Valley. Nettleton was third with 42 points followed by Hatley with 28, Aberdeen with 21 and Houston with 16.
“My boys did very well at the district meet with the majority of them qualifying for this week's region meet,” said boys coach Trey Gant. “It will be a tough meet, but I expect my boys to do very well.”
Girls coach Jim Wood said, “This is my first year and I was very pleased with the effort.”
Sophomore Israel Whitmore led Choctaw County boys with one victory and two second place finishes. He won the shot put with a throw of 44-1 and took second in the long jump (19-5) and the high jump (5-6).
Other boys winners were Brandon Hadley in the 800 with a time of 2:24, Rakeim Ashford in the triple jump (39-1?), Julius Buggs in the discus (114-2) and the 1600 and 3200 relay teams. Ben Carr was a member of both winning relay teams, Ashford anchored the 1600 team and Hadley was the leadoff runner on the 3200. Carr also finished second in the 1600 and third in the 3200 and Buggs was third in the shot put.
Sophomore Alaysia Weeks won three events for the Lady Chargers. She was first in the 100 in 13.62, the long jump (15-5) and the triple jump (30-3). Other winners were Adestinee Harris in the 200 (29.30), N'Kia Belk in the 400 (1:15.50) and the 400 and 800 relay teams. Weeks anchored the 400 relay team, Belk ran on the 800 team and Mya Parish and Eilundra Curtis were on both teams. Harris was second in the 100 (13.75) and Curtis second in the 200 (29.61).
The top four in each event qualified for the region meet that will be held Friday at Kosciusko with qualifiers from District 4.
Other Choctaw County boys who qualified: Raheim Taylor, second in 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles; Amerious Brown, third in 300 hurdles and triple jump; Jared Bellew, third in 400 and high jump; Trenton McGee, third in the1600; Andrew Johnson, fourth in the 100; London Toombs, fourth in the 400; Taliak Davis, fourth in the discus; Rylee McGlothin, fourth in the 800; and Kaleb Nichlos, fourth in the triple jump. The 800 relay team was second and the 400 team was third.
Jenna Bellew also qualified for the girls region meet with fourth places finishes in the 800 and 1600.
