The Choctaw County baseball team had a tough day at the Saltillo Spring Break Tournament with losses to Mantachie 17-0 and Itawamba AHS 13-2,
“It was a nightmare,” said coach Andy Young.
Mantachie scored 12 runs in the first inning. “We dropped four or five popups in the first inning and every time you drop one, the next one goes in the gap and two or three runs score,” Young said. “Nothing went right. It took three pitchers to get out of the first inning.”
With a strong wind blowing out, Jacob Frazier, Chad Stephens and Jared Spigner each homered for Mantachie and they combined to drive in 12 runs.
The Chargers were set to play Hatley Tuesday, will have a second game with Hatley at home Friday and play at Philadelphia Saturday.
SOFTBALL
A scheduled spring break week softball game between Choctaw County and Eupora was rained out and will not be rescheduled.
The Lady Chargers played Starkville Tuesday and have a home game with Louisville Friday.
