The Choctaw County Chargers outscored Hatley in every quarter and had the team’s highest point total of the season in a 67-45 victory. It was 15-10 after one period, 34-20 at the half and 49-31 through three quarters.
The Chargers shot 44 percent (22 of 50) from the floor.
Zavier Coleman led Choctaw County with 20 points, including five 3-point shots. Kendall Coleman had 12 points and Jared Bellew 11. Kellen Wren was the only Hatley player in double figures with 12 points
Zavier Coleman was also the Chargers’ leading scorer in a 72-46 loss to Nettleton with 12 points on four 3-point shots. He was 4 for 7 from behind the arc.
Choctaw County shot only 26 percent for the game. “We’re missing a lot of easy shots,” said coach Gary Beals. He added, “The thing I liked about the Nettleton game is that we got most of our scoring from underclassmen.”
Shawn Pounds had 22 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals for Nettleton.
GIRLS
The Lady Chargers rebounded from a 42-34 loss to Nettleton with a 32-27 victory over Hatley.
La’Genesis Johnson was Choctaw County’s leading scorer in both games with 17 points against Nettleton and 12 versus Hatley. She also had 16 rebounds in the Nettleton game.
Jabria Esters played a key role for Choctaw County against Hatley with eight points and seven rebounds.
Both Choctaw County teams played Kosciusko Tuesday and conclude the regular season with games at Aberdeen Friday. The Region 5-3A tournament at Aberdeen begins Feb. 12. The Chargers and Lady Chargers are defending champions.
