Choctaw County baseball concluded the season with twin perfect games against Aberdeen and a loss to Nanih Waiya.
“We're looking forward to summer,” said coach Andy Young. The summer season begins the last week in May. It will give the underclassmen from this year's team valuable experience headed into 2020.
Choctaw County swept a doubleheader against Aberdeen by identical 15-0 scores in four inning games. Dawson Jones was perfect in the first game retiring 12 consecutive batters and Brian Threadgill did the same in the second game.
Coach Andy Young was pleased with the Chargers' performance in the final game of the season despite losing to Nanih Waiya, the two-time defending 1A state champion, 11-4.
“Justin Jenkins pitched very well,” he said. “We were very competitive.”
As has been the case throughout the season, late inning woes hurt the Chargers. “It's kind of the story of our year,” Young said. “If would would play five inning games instead of seven inning games, we would have a really good record. We played really well for five innings (against Nanih Waiya), then the bottom fell out.”
Taylor records no-hitter for Grace Christian
Alex Taylor pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Grace Christian improved to 5-2 with a 10-0 victory over Laurel Home School.
The Eagles had only five hits, two by Kyle Borntrager, but benefited from 10 walks.
A scheduled game with Calvary Christian of Florence was rained out. An attempt will be made to reschedule it.
Grace Christian played Meridian Home School Tuesday and will host Hebron Christian Thursday.
