As we head into 2021, it's not too early to look ahead to playoff and championship schedules for the remainder of the school year, with the proviso that nothing is set in stone at these most unpredictable and volatile of times. Current schedules are posted on the websites for the Mississippi High School Activities Association (www.misshssa,com) and Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (mais.org).
MHSAA Winter Sports
Basketball – Region tournaments are scheduled for February 9-13 at sites to be determined. The playoffs begin Monday, February 15 for girls and Tuesday the 16th for boys. Championships are scheduled for the first week in March.
Soccer – Opening round games are slated for January 26, championship games February 6.
Powerlifting – The schedule calls for region meets February 6, North/South meets March 6 and the state meet April 17.
Bowling – Region tournaments January 30, state championships February 3-5.
Archery – North/South competition March 7-16, state championships March 16, 28 and 29. Archery compensation includes MHSAA and MAIS schools.
MAIS Winter Sports
Basketball – District tournaments the week beginning February 1, region tournaments beginning February 8, state class tournaments beginning February 15 and the Overall tournament beginning February 22.
Boys Soccer – Opening round February 15, semifinals February 18 and championships games February 20. Girls MAIS soccer is a fall sport.
MHSAA Spring Sports
Baseball – Round 1 April 29-May 1, Round 2 May 6-8, Round 3 May 13-15, North/South May 20-22 and state championships May 25-29.
Softball – Region tournaments April 23 and 24, Round 1 April 26 and 27, Round 2 April 30 and May 1, North/South May 7 and 8, championship games May 25-29.
Track – Division meets April 10, Region meets April 17, North/South April 24 and state meet May 1 and 3.
Tennis – Round 1 April 12, Round 2 April 15, Round 3 April 19, team state championships April 22, individual championships May 26-28.
Golf – Region matches April 19, girls state matches April 26 and 27, boys state matches May 3 and 4. State matches will be contested at courses throughout the state.
MAIS Spring Sports
Baseball – Playoffs begin the week of April 12, semifinals the week of May 3 and class championships the week of May 10.
Track – North/South meets April 21 and 24. State meet April 30 and May 1.
Tennis – Championships April 28 and May 5.
Golf – Region matches week of April 26. Calendar does not show dates for state matches.
Note – MAIS softball is a fall sport.
