Israel Whitmore starred on the football field for Choctaw County last fall and played basketball for the Chargers during the winter. For the spring, he's a track standout.
Whitmore won the shot put with a throw of 49 feet one and a quarter inch at the 3A North State meet last Saturday at Center Hill High School, took third in the long jump and sixth in the high jump.
He had Choctaw County's only first place finish.
The top four in each event qualified for the state meet this Friday at Pearl High School. Boys who qualified were Julius Buggs, third in the discus and the shot put; Raheim Taylor, third in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles, Taliak Davis, fourth in the discus; and the 3200 relay team of Brandon Hadley, Rylee McGlothin, Trenton McGee and Ben Carr, which finished third.
For the Lady Chargers, Alaysia Weeks was third in the long jump, fifth in the triple jump and fifth in the 100. The 400 relay team of Mya Parish, Adestinee Harris, Eilundra Curtis and Weeks was third and the 800 relay team Parish, Harris, Curtis and N'Kia Belk finished fourth. Harris was sixth in the 100 and Curtis sixth in the 200.
