BOONEVILLE – Choctaw County was well represented on the West team that won the Northeast Mississippi Football Coaches Association All-Star game 26-0 last week.
Choctaw County coach Ben Ashley was head coach for the winning team, and he had four of his Chargers on the team.
Isaiah Hannah, Jalen Estes, Cameron Miller and Tanner Threadgill played for the West. “They all played well,” Ashley said. Stats were not kept, but Ashley said Hannah was the game's leading runner and Miller was in on a sack.
Moe Hardin, the Chargers' all-region middle guard who died in March, three months after receiving a liver transplant, was an honorary member of the West.
Eupora quarterback Tanner Knight was offensive MVP. He threw for one touchdown and ran for one. Oxford defensive lineman Xavier Herod was defensive MVP.
“It's a lot of fun when you get in a situation where everyone on your team is a leading player,” Ashley said. “That makes it easy.”
This is the second time that Ashley has been the winning coach in the game. As coach at Amory, he coached the East team to a 10-7 double overtime victory the first time the game was played in 2013.
