The Choctaw County boys and girls basketball teams will participate in a tournament at Winona Thursday and Saturday.
The Chargers and Lady Chargers play Senatobia Thursday, the girls at 4 p.m. and the boys at 5:30. Winona girls play Eupora at 7 p.m. and the boys play Eupora at 8:30.
Consolation and championship games will be played Saturday, beginning with the girls consolation game at 2 p.m.
The Chargers and Lady Chargers were set to play Eupora Tuesday.
The Chargers had been shorthanded while the football team played in the 3A tournament. With the loss last week to Noxubee County in the North State final, the basketball team received an influx of talent from the football team.
Coach Gary Beals is happy to get the players, but wishes it had been a week later after the football state championship game.
In their last game before Thanksgiving, the girls team was defeated by Starkville Academy 51-43. “We played hard but Starkville Academy hit several threes to keep them ahead,” said coach Mandy Jewell.
La’Genesis Johnson scored 19 points for Choctaw County and Raquela Graham had a season high 11.
