The Choctaw County boys and girls golf teams opened the season with nine-hole matches at Dogwood Golf Course in Grenada and at Eupora Country Club. For the girls team, it was the first matches ever.
The Chargers finished tied for second out of four teams at Dogwoods and second of three teams at Eupora.
Preston Payne had a 44, Spencer Power 46, Conner Jewell 48 and Colin Clark 50 for the Tigers at Dogwoods. Power’s first name was reported incorrectly in the Plaindealer last week.
Wager Valley finished first, Lafayette tied with Choctaw County for second and Bruce was fourth.
Power shot 42 at Eupora, Payne 43, Kole Vowell 48 and Clark 60. Nanih Waiya was first and East Webster third.
The Lady Chargers were second of three teams at Dogwoods, trailing Water Valley and ahead of Bruce. Jenna Bellew had 60, Blake Helms and Macy Cagle each 62.
Choctaw County was the only school with a girls team at Eupora. Cagle shot 59, Bellew and Helms 61 each.
The Chargers and Lady Chargers have matches at Elm Lake in Columbus Thursday.
