The Choctaw County boys cross country runners continue to show improvement.
“That's all we ask, to beat your time from the week before,” coach Andy Young said after the varsity and junior high boys teams competed in the Eagle Claw Invitational at Eupora..
The varsity finished sixth, led by senior Trenton McGee, who was seventh with a 5,000 meter time of 21:44.4. It was an impressive comeback by McGee, who was unable to complete a race one week earlier at Okatibbee Lake because he suffered a dislocated ankle as a result of stepping on a sewer drain.
Other runners for the Chargers were Jared Bellew, 11th in 22:03.3; Isaac Burdine, 15th in 22:28.15; Landon Wells, 35th in 27:33.08; Micah Gammill, 36th in 27:40.48; Braden McGee, 39th in 28:16.95; Jacob Miller, 46th in 33:45.35; and Kole Vowell, 47th in 33:47.19.
Mississippi School for Math and Science won the meet, led by the top two runners, Bryce Harrison and Luke Bowles.
With six of the top 10 runners, the Choctaw County junior high team continued its winning ways, easily taking first with a team score of 16 to 51 runnerup East Webster. “They did really, really well,” Young said.
Richard Fowler crossed the finish line first in 13:06.39 for 3,200 meters (slightly less than two miles).
He was followed by Brodie Arnault in third (13:44.17), Hayden Tuck fourth (13:53.23), Seth Miller fifth (13:57.05), Tate Miller eighth (14:25). Jason Jones 10th (15:10.49), Allen Landrum 16th (16:02.26) and Anderson Chamblee 25th (18:09.79). Tuck and Jones are eighth graders, the others all seventh graders.
Choctaw County will run Saturday in a meet at Pontotoc. It should be the first meet run in autumn-like weather
