The Choctaw County boys track team was runner-up at the Region 2-3A meet last week at Kosciusko and the girls team finished fourth. The girls won five events and the boys two.
The boys finished with 120? points, trailing Yazoo County with 143. Other team scores were Water Valley 78?, Charleston 67?, Humphreys County 54, Amanda Elzy 53, J.Z. George 46?, Aberdeen 38, Houston 35, Ruleville Central 17, Hatley 11 and Nettleton 4.
For the girls, Charleston had 133 points, followed by Water Valley with 89, Yazoo County 85, Choctaw County 77, Amanda Elzy 70, Ruleville Central 58, Nettleton 29, J.Z. George 28, Hatley 28, Aberdeen 15, Houston 14 and Humphreys County 6.
Choctaw County boys winners were Israel Whitmore in the shot put with a throw of 45-10 and the 3200 relay team of Brandon Hadley, Rylee McGlothin, Trenton McGee and Ben Carr with a time of 9:27. Whitmore also finished second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump.
For the Lady Chargers. Alysia Weeks won three individual events, the 100 in 13.03, the long jump with a leap of 14-10 and the triple jump (31-3), and anchored the winning 400 relay team (53.86). Adestinee Harris took first in the 200 (28.06) and was third in the 100. Joining Weeks on the 400 relay team were Harris, Mya Parish and Eilundra Curtis.
The top four in each event qualified for the North State meet to be held Saturday at Center Hill in Olive Branch.
Other boys who qualified: Rahiem Taylor, second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles; Julius Buggs, second in the shot put and the discus; Brandon Hadley, third in the 800, Amerious Brown, third in the 300 hurdles; Taliak Davis, third in the discus; the 1600 relay team, third; and the 800 relay team, fourth.
Curtis qualified for girls North State with a third place finish in the 200, and the 800 relay team of Parish, Curtis, Harris and N'Kia Belk took second.
