The Choctaw County baseball team was defeated last Friday, but not by another team. “Mother Nature got us,” said coach Andy Young.
Home games scheduled with Winona and Eupora were rained out. Young hopes to reschedule them.
The Chargers did play West Point in a jamboree Feb. 17, a 3-2 loss, but that is not an official game. Young is worried about the his team's lack of action.
“It's always a concern when you haven't played another team. We're tired of playing each other. I called about 25 coaches trying to get games for (last) Monday or Tuesday.”
Because of the MHSAA rule limiting a player's pitches during a week, many coaches are reluctant to schedule additional games. That isn't a concern for Young.
“I have nine or ten pitchers I can throw to eat up valuable innings. It's no big deal to me.”
If Mother Nature cooperates, the Chargers will see plenty of action over the next few days, with games against Louisville Thursday, Winona Friday, and Nanih Waiya and East Webster Saturday.
