The Choctaw County volleyball season came to an end with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-4 loss to Belmont in the second round of the MHSSA Class I tournament. It ended a successful season that saw the Lady Chargers go 12-0 in Region 4 and defeat Senatobia 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament.
“Overall, I’m very proud of these girls and their accomplishments,” said coach Miranda Worrell. “They worked so hard and achieved a lot.”
Statistical leaders for Choctaw County against Belmont were Macy Claire Cagle with 14 service receptions and 10 digs, LaGenesis Johnson with four aces, Caden Miles with 10 assists and Leah Hammons with 15 digs.
Belmont had 32 kills, led by Kathryn Greene with 15 and Maggie Ledbetter with 11.
For the season, Addie Stacy had 118 kills, 88 digs, 83 aces and 14 blocks. Miles had 345 assists and 45 aces, Veronica Molina 276 service receptions, 72 digs and 61 aces, Hammons 113 digs, 63 kills and 41 aces, and Cagle 210 service receptions, 106 digs, 55 kills, 40 aces.
Hammons, Cagle, Miles, Molina and Johnson are seniors. Stacy is a junior.
“I hate to see the seniors go, but we have a lot of young girls who will be competing for us next year and I’m really excited to see how far we can get next year,” Worrell said.
Belmont was defeated by Our Lady Academy in the semifinals. OLA went on to win an eighth consecutive state championship.
