The running of Tra McComb and the passing of Cade Adkins led Eupora to a 54-20 victory over French Camp for the Eagles first win. The Panthers remain winless at 0-3.
McComb did most of the damage, carrying 15 times for 258 yards and five touchdowns. Adkins completed seven of 11 passes for 159 yards and one TD as Eupora, a 2A school, totaled 519 yards of offense. Adkins also ran four times for 24 yards and McComb had five receptions for 23yards
On the positive side for French Camp, the Panthers totaled 311 yards of offense after having only 94 a week earlier in a shutout loss to Starkville Academy. Led by Phillip Caradine, French Camp had 260 yards on the ground on 32 carries, an 8.1 yard average.
“I think the offensive line is beginning to figure it out,” said coach Nathan Wright. “They did a great job.”
French Camp had TD runs of 8 and 81 yards by Caradine and and 59 yards by C.J. Johnson and a two-point conversion run by Bradley Edwards. Caradine's 81-yard run early in the fourth quarter pulled French Camp within two scores at 35-20. But Eupora responded when Atkins connected with Daniel Brown on a 55-yard TD pass. The Eagles added two more TDs on a one-yard run by Travon McMillian and a 22-yard return of a blocked punt by Jessie Suddeth.
Caradine finished with 17 carries for 156 yards. He had been alternating at running back with Edwards but was given full duties against Eupora. He also was credited with three solo tackles and three assists.
Johnson carried nine times for 83 yards, completed seven passes for 51 yards and had four solo tackles, including one for a loss. Caradine and Johnson play in the secondary.
Wright said Seth Box and Logan Campbell on the defensive line and Edwards at linebacker played well. Campbell had five solo tackles, Box two solos including a sack and Edwards led the team with nine tackles, one for a loss. “Bradley played really hard,” Wright said.
