Jasmine Bonty had a double-double in each game as the French Camp girls basketball team won twice with victories over Hebron Christian 48-37 and Winona 55-32.
The Panthers defeated Hebron but lost to Winona.
“We're settling down. The kids are making shots that we felt should have been falling all along,” said Lady Panthers coach Polly LeVert.
Bonty had 14 points and 14 rebounds against Hebron and 13 points and 11 rebounds against Winona. In the Winona game, Jordan Carter had 18 points and 15 rebounds. Grace Ann Wade scored 10 points in each game.
The boys team defeated Hebron 34-22 in a game that was called at the half when snow started to fall to allow everyone to get home safely. Calvin Johnson had 15 points for the Panthers and Darrion Smith 13.
French Camp lost to Winona 53-44, but that was an improvement over an earlier 60-26 loss to the Tigers. The Panthers fell behind 12-4 after one period and came within four in the fourth quarter before Winona pulled away.
Coach Robert Leathers said his team missed four layups in the first period. “It should have been 12-12. We played a really good game. The kids played really hard. I'm impressed. We're a little more confident shooting the ball.
The same two players led French Camp, Johnson with 13 points and Smith with 12.
The French Camp boys and girls games scheduled against West Lowndes on Monday were postponed.
