This weekend the Alabama Crimson Tide will be facing off in their annual match-up against the LSU Tigers. The Crimson Tide are undefeated so far this season and have destroyed everyone in their path. The Tigers have only lost one game this year, which was to the Florida Gators.
The Crimson Tide have the leading heisman candidate in Tua Tagnavaiola. The Tigers are led by dual-threat quarterback Joe Burrow, who has also dominated. A great match-up we will get to see is between Crimson Tide wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and LSU cornerback Greedy Williams. We will also see both great defenses match up against both great offenses.
This could also very well be the game of the year. The College Gameday show will be traveling to Baton Rouge for the big game. This will likely determine the SEC west champion and who goes to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.
If Alabama wins the game they will basically have it in the bag, unless something crazy happens, and if LSU wins and wins out they will head to Mercedes Benz Stadium to face whoever wins the battle in the Eastern division.
The last time LSU defeated Alabama in the regular season was Nov. 11, 2011. The score was 9-6 with no touchdowns scored that game. Alabama defeated LSU 21-0 in the National Championship that season.
LSU has had top ten teams numbers this season also, defeating three teams while they were in the top ten this season, and Alabama could be next. This game could also determine if LSU makes the playoff or not, which a loss to Alabama will not drop them far. My prediction for this game is for the Alabama Crimson Tide to go into Death Valley with a shootout against LSU to start, but that Alabama will finish off the game 45-42 with a last second field goal.
REBS TO BEGIN
NEW HOOPS ERA
College basketball season is on the horizon and Ole Miss will be having its first season in the Kermit Davis Era.
Kermit Davis is the former head coach of the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. He led them to three appearances in the NCAA tournament. He also led Idaho to two tournament appearances.
Davis is a native of Starkville and played for Mississippi State so the rivalry game could mean a lot more. His father also coached the Bulldogs.
I will miss Andy Kennedy who led Ole Miss in all-time wins, but I think Davis will be a great coach. The Rebels have their best player, Terrence Davis, returning as a senior after averaging 14 points per game and I see him having a good season. Also returning is 7-foot-1 center Domonic Olejniczak. Bruce Stevens is returning after averaging 11 points per game. One of the best returning players Breenin Tyree is who I predict to have a breakout season and to be a first team all SEC.
A really great shooter in Vontae Shuler is also returning for the Rebels. The Rebels have a great returning team and some familiar players. This team has a good chance at having a good season, maybe making it to the NCAA tournament.
I predict the Rebels to finish the season at 23-8, and lose in the round of 32 of the NCAA tournament, and the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. The rebels first game is Nov. 5 against Western Michigan.
