On May 22, the Southern Pines District meeting was held at Lake Tiak-O’Khata. Registration began a 9:00 with refreshments and drinks. At 10:00, the meeting was called to order by Mrs. May Hall, newly elected Southern Pines District Director 2019-2020. Mrs. Marie Shaw gave a welcome and Reverend Mike Dowd gave the Invocation. Mrs. Martha Gammill led the pledge to the Flag.
Judy McCleod introduced Mayor Will Hill who welcomed the group in addition to promoting the city of Louisville. He gave a brief overview of the city's progress since the 2014 tornado that brought major destruction to the city. Many accomplishments have been made in the last five years. However, there is still much work to be done. Mayor Hill has been a driving force in our city's accomplishments. He is a person of wisdom, integrity and vision. The results of his advocacy are evident around the city.
Mrs. Elaine Thompson introduced the incoming Southern Pines Director, Mrs. May Hall, who in turn introduced Mrs. Doris Ebner, President of GCM. She called on Mrs. Margaret Fancher, Executive Secretary, GCM. Fancher called the roll and passed out the president’s package for each club president. Each president gave the members in her club attending. There were two workshops led by Mrs. Ebner which included the new presidents of each club. Mrs. Sandra McCaulia, the Awards Chairman, conducted the Awards workshop. She encouraged all presidents to apply for awards.
Members then gathered at the lakeside gazebo for a plant lecture led by Mr. Ed Waldron, owner of Evergreen Garden Center. He gave some interesting facts about plants and their origin dating back to the 1800s to early 1900s.
Members returned to the banquet room for a delicious buffet lunch. The blessing was led by Mrs. Jeanette Donald. Mrs. Ebner announced that the state convention will be held in Starkville in April 2020. Mrs. Dale Shumaker gave the credentials report and the meeting was adjourned.
