WRITEON FOR NOVEMBER 18, 2020 sister alies. Well this year GIRLFRIENDS 2020 will not be doing a library Christmas Tree…is anyone? But we have our give-back for the year…a concrete JOY BENCH for the new SENSORY GARDEN at the Nursing Home. See the top and one leg in the pic leaving for its new home. Many months ago, actually in the early part of the year, when we were still meeting at Enon, and then the Library…we worked on this idea and purchased the bench from our GF Melba and her little business. Because it is a Sensory Garden we used bold colors and designs. The top features a girl swinging in a tree, a rainbow, a huge sun with a church and stars. Butterflies pop out and a flock of ‘our better angels’ are singing. Around the sides are 3D flowers and across the front is GIRLFRIENDS 2020, a letter on each bump! The legs feature bright colors, with a couple of mirrors. The pandemic caused us to have to stop work but now it is sealed with varnish and water seal and we hope it will be a cheerful, indeed joyful, reminder of some of the beautiful in our lives, despite the confusing and often challenging times of being in the Nursing Home. We hope our GF Imogene who recently moved there and worked on the bench, will get the opportunity to roll out and see it! TY. Mr. Mike Pierson for moving it for us and for Deanie Graves and her ‘garden committee’! We’re not necessarily talking great art here…we’re talking community, doing something together for others, and at least creating something that might just bring a bit of bright joy! All of us are able, if we would but try, to create and share. Perhaps you are already making your Christmas cards? Or decorations for your small T-Day table? Maybe you made someone a set of masks from funny or bold colored material? Perhaps you wrote a poem or a short story to delight the hearers? Whatever you are sure you can’t do…well who knows?! Give it a go! BLESSINGS.
