WRITEON FOR OCTOBER 14, 2020 sister alies. A prospective father-in-law asked: ‘Young man can you support a family? The surprised groom answered, ‘Well, no. I was just planning to support your daughter. The rest of you will have to fend for yourselves.’ Has been another one of those confusing weeks. Well or ill? $ on or off? Curious how you can watch 4 different TV stations and get 4 different answers to the same questions! My poor little mind just gets dizzy. My niece in Colorado did have her baby son, the first for me in that generation. I was thinking about how much each of us is ‘worth’. What is our ‘value’? Sometimes we count value by money. A particular item is worth thousands. Alternatively, we say someone is valuable to a team or to a family. Some folks have very valuable collections…maybe coins, marbles, comic books, dolls or old cars. We have heard the slime comment: ‘he ain’t worth nothin’ to a child who will remember that for life. We have wondered how much our life is worth if we had to step out and help someone in danger. Consider significance and importance. How important is a certain point of view? What is it worth? How significant is a way of doing things? Those who love us find in us worth, importance, significance and value. Does that mean we have to do great and grand things? Does it mean we are faithful and down to earth? What, then does it mean to ‘be ourselves’? What does it cost to be worthwhile or valuable? Even Adam and God had this problem… a way back according to an anonymous author: Adam was walking around the Garden feeling very lonely, so God asked, ‘what’s the matter with you?’ ‘I don’t have anyone to talk to.’ ‘How about a companion, a woman?’ God continued, ‘this person will cook and wash for you. She will always agree with every decision you make and bear your children, never asking you to get up in the night. She won’t nag you and will always be the first to admit she’s wrong. She will never have a headache and will freely give you love and compassion.’ ‘What would a woman like this cost me?’ God said, ‘An arm and a leg.’ Adam asked, ‘What can I get for just a rib?’ I will remind readers that Adam was created from the mud, the soil, the earth. Eve was flesh and bone right from the jump! Is one worth more than the other? I don’t think so. Be a blessing this week for someone. Be assured of your worth, value, importance and significance! BLESSINGS.
