I hope you were able to view the great ART SHOW over the weekend at our incredible Choctaw County Library! Over 20 artists from the County shared their work, told us a bit about themselves and their 'processes' at the Friends of the Library meeting. If you were one of the unfortunates who missed it...here's my take on it's beauty!:
Over 100 folks attended the Friends of the Library meeting and art show on Thursday night, Aug 1, 2019, in the library’s meeting room. WOW! is about all that needs to be said. Deanie Graves and her media committee artistically presented the works. WCBI showed up and it was supposed to be on TV…past my bedtime. Hahaha…The artists had their works of art from beautiful watercolor, to oils, to clay works, pen & ink, collage, and even to fabric monkeys! Yes, we have lots of artists in Choctaw County and many more are likely not to have heard about the show and will be in the next one! I would especially like to see some of the art work from African-American and Hispanic folks! A youth show would also be great!
The show continued over Friday and Saturday. Congrats to all the Friends, and especially to Charlotte Taylor, President of the Friends for such an interesting program.
The Friends meeting Treasurer reported some wonderful stats. As you may remember, it was only in May that the Library celebrated it’s “1st BDay”…since the ‘renewal’…I think these are correct. Bear with me! We received a $500 grant and a grant from 4County for $5013! Businesses donated over $1300 for the summer reading/literacy program where over 144 folks read over 700 books and did 700 literacy activities. YEA! There were 14 programs over the summer and in those 5 weeks, 406 folks participated. AND for you bottom liners: there’s still $1448.00 in the bank. Good work y’all, especially Christina and Lara and Jessie and others who keep the library running day to day.!
The WEIR LIBRARY is open again from 9-5 (closed noon-1) on MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS. Keep it going, by going!
We are so fortunate in Choctaw County. Does your group or organization meet in the meeting room? Girlfriends2019 meets there on the last Tuesday of each month. What fun.
