WRITEON FOR MAY 27, 2020 sister alies. Those gardens I told you about in small spaces a couple of weeks ago? Well, they are flourishing. My little weeds are still doing well, as well as the sweet po I am rooting, along with 2 avocadoes. I think one might end up a tree in a pot! The other will be going to compost. Then there was the ‘prophecy’ about masks becoming fashion statements…did you see the back page in the STARKVILLE DISPATCH last week with the very cool pics of interesting masks? I’m onna roll. My fav deMello is such a great storyteller! And a writer of quips that cause us to look at things another way. For example: “The present moment is never unbearable if you live in it fully. What is unbearable is to have your body here at 10AM and your mind at 6PM; your body in Bombay and your mind in San Francisco.” Bet you celebrated Memorial Day in some fashion either by a little service or watching one of the programs on TV/social media. Our service personnel are serving in many different roles and for them we are grateful But, Memorial Day really asked us to call to mind those who died. To ‘memorialize’ or ‘remember’ them so that no one is left behind. I suspect various memorial services will be constructed for our “virus19” dead modeled on Memorial Day. Some folks can’t believe that there are over 500 dead in Mississippi from the virus. Or that we have been spiking a bit…so please wear a mask/gloves and do the 6 footer. It won’t last forever, nor will you if you join the ranks of the passed on. Finally, deMello reminds us to pay attention to our situation and to that of others. We need to learn to deal with the things that come our way and others can help. “A maharaja went out to sea when a great storm arose. One of the workers on board began to cry out and wail in fear, for he’d not been on a ship before. His crying was so loud and so prolonged that everyone began to become annoyed and the maharaja was for throwing him overboard. But his chief advisor, who was a sage said, ‘No. let me deal with the man. I think I can cure him.’ With that he ordered some of the sailors to hurl the man into the sea. The moment he found himself in the sea, the poor man began to scream in terror and to thrash about wildly. In a few seconds the sage ordered him hauled aboard. Back on board he lay in a corner in absolute silence. When the maharaja asked his advisor for the reason, he replied, ‘We never realize how lucky we are until our situation gets worse.’”[THE HEART OF ENLIGHTENMENT, A.deMello, Fount,1997] BLESSINGS.
