WRITEON FOR MAY 6, 2020
Have you noticed how many folks are using this time to continue or begin a garden? I have a lovely little strip in front of my Choctaw Plaza unit…I’m afraid it is beautiful with weeds, now flowering, and a pansy that is so bright and cheerful, and my rose, Rosie now 10 years old! She has a glorious flower, a sort of coral with bits of yellow. I bought it from FRED’s one day for $1.99 all those years ago. No doubt you have something like her in your garden?
Those who have bad backs and the like are not bending over but are planting higher up! Planters, pots, or wooden troughs seem very popular. You can see Kay with her wonderful ‘garden of Eden’ full of both flowers and vegetables. She particularly loves the jalapenos because she loves to cook and fresh food never goes wasted. Notice the lavender, the Dusty Miller, and as she says ‘lots of green plants’. Some folks also decorate with those little tingling things…butterflies, dragonflies, suns, moons, and well many different choices. What a great use of such a small space!
Down just a couple of doors is a real gentleman farmer, Tony. His garden has greens, okra, squash, toms, and lovely flowers. He watches it grow every day and tends the weeds!
God, of course, is particularly generous this time of year, buckets of pine pollen, enough green to paint my VW! Daffs are almost gone but all the wildflowers and planted gardens give me such joy. It also gives me hope that in our day when things seem so challenging and frightening to so many, the seed that goes into the ground looks nothing like the flower, plant or fruit that finally appears. I find that very mysterious and interesting.
The weeds were also created by God, so I have a fondness for them too. They seem to grow faster somehow than the flowers, but their flowers often are just as beautiful. Makes me want to be very careful whom I judge (if at all) by their ‘label’.
BLESSINGS.
