Oh my, tornadoes, floods, winterish weather, sunshine, wind…and virus19. Happy spring in MS! Who says Mother Nature can’t multi-task?
Fortunately Lent is only 40 days, whereas Easter is 50! Yea! You might like to know that the word “‘Easter’ comes from a pagan festival of spring celebrated by the Saxons, commemorating the goddess ‘Eastre’ or ‘Oestre’. Her symbol was the rabbit.’ (That’s where the bunnies come from)! ‘From earliest times the egg was the symbol of re-birth. The exchange of eggs was a springtime custom in some cultures. They were sometimes wrapped in gold leaf and peasants would color eggs by boiling them with the leaves or petals of certain flowers.”(THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK,2015, Meditations on Luke).
I mentioned last week about masks becoming front and center and we have no less than some amazing creations right round here! Pictured is Kayla who is a care worker wearing a mask made by Susan in California. A real fashion statement. I also received another shape and style all together from a neighbor. It hooks over the ears rather than tying as Kayla’s does. When I wear my paper mask it fogs up my glasses! U? What to do? WEAR SOMETHING…I also saw a good use of T-shirts…place the shirt over nose and mouth and then tie the arms behind the head and let the rest of the shirt drop. Lovely.
The creativity we are seeing from clapping together at a certain time, to creating masks, to playing music on line…well, the human spirit will not be overcome by such a pestilence. However, we still can use the time to learn. Pope Francis said “the worldwide coronavirus pandemic is NOT God’s judgement on humanity, but God’s call on people to judge what is most important to them and to resolve to act accordingly from now on…a time to choose what matters and what passes away, a time to separate what is necessary from what is not…”
I saw this in a magazine, with no author mentioned: NO GLOOM IN THE TOMB, JESUS IS RISEN! Many people are frightened and concerned about so many others. It is a time (if one is a Christian) to just remind each other of this fact. Jesus was raised…if not, we live in vain.
