GIRLFRIENDS2020 celebrated a very special birthday on Friday last in honor of ALANA who turned 30! She has been a faithful GF since she was 22. Sometimes we just need to say a few nice things about regular old people!
Her GFs hold her in high regard as a caring, loveable, and hopeful person. She was born in Starkville but lived in TN. until she was 19.She graduated from the York Agricultural Institute in ’09 and is now a student at EMCC planning to graduate in December. And then? Maybe a job, or continuing her study of business administration? She has served in an internship as a receptionist.
Millennials seem to be interested in lots of things and Alana is no different. Books, movies, surprises, dogs, food…you name it. Her faith is very important to her and she cites Phil.4 “I can do all things in Christ…” as her favorite and life-sustainer.
Folks need to work at their own pace and one thing GF teaches us is that respect for others is critical. It really is the way we learn to love. She and her mom are able to do lots of things together and Alana is very grateful for all the gifts she received.
All her GFs made sure the party was a surprise…and Luis at the Costa Mexican helped us so much! Why he and Jorge even made sure there was whipping cream in the face and SINGING happy birthday in Spanish! Alana is a good sport too! “I have come a long way from being a kid…30 is the beginning of a whole new road…new college or new job…and my responsibility in the community.” We all look forward to her continued blossoming, 30ROCK!
Coming from that party reminded me of a deMello story about how important it is to care for one another.
“There was once a candymaker who made candy in the shapes of animals and birds of different colors and sizes. When he sold his candy to the children, they would begin to quarrel: my rabbit is better than your tiger…my squirrel might be smaller but is tastier…And the candymaker would laugh at the thought of the grown-ups who were no less ignorant than the children when they thought one person was better than another.”(1989).
We are equally sad with GF Lisa and her family at the death of her 10year old granddaughter, Maddie. The funeral was touching, heart-breaking, and blest.
BLESSINGS.
