WRITEON FOR DEC 18, 2019
sister alies.
Oh my, the open house @ the library was lovely. Loads of folks from all over the widest community! Music and fun, hot chocolate delicious, and the trees! Yes, the trees were charming. We were happy ours, JESUS REFUGEE, won the Peoples Choice/ Handcrafted Tree. Thanks for all who voted for us. I loved the unicorn and the race track, some very clever stuff! Congrats to other winners!
What was really fun were all the people who came and wandered, laughed, and almost like a Hallmark movie, brought the community more together. The Band Boosters had loads of goodies in their outdoor sale and there seemed a lot more tiny kids. Santa was well played and got his pic taken many times. One of the highlights for me was the sweater contest and the 2nd place winner. Pennie was so proud to win her cup and is pictured here with Nita the activities director at the nursing home.
Many of us sing the song O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL throughout the season leading up to Christmas. Actually it should be sung from Dec 17 to 24 as the verses are the antiphons of the daily prayer cycle called the 'O Antiphons'. Here's an example for today, December 18:
“O Lord and Ruler of the house of Israel. You appeared to Moses in the fire of the burning bush and on Mt. Sinai gave him Your law. COME, and with an outstretched arm redeem us.” The verse from the hymn
is: “O come, O come, great Lord of might, Who to your tribes on Sinai's height; In ancient times did give the law, in cloud and majesty and awe. Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel, shall come to you O Israel.”
I love that hymn and the antiphons for each day. They grace the prayer and show the hope of a people, so longing for goodness and truth; for the Messiah.
December 21 is beautiful: “O MORNING STAR radiance of the light eternal and sun of justice: Come. And enlighten those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death.”
I particularly love the one for the 24th: “ERO CRA (Emmanuel, Rex, Oriens, Clavis, Radix, Adonai, Sapientia/names of God)...TOMORROW I WILL COME.”
What a promise!
MERRY CHRISTMAS, FELIZ NAVIDAD, AND MANY BLESSINGS!
