The East Mississippi Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation recently held their 27th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet at Grace Christian School.
A record crowd in excess of 300 people attended this family friend ly event. Those attending enjoyed a seafood buffet, silent and live auction, raffle games, and door prizes drawings. All proceeds from this banquet goes to the protection and enhancement of the wild turkey, access to more public hunting land, improvement of present hunting land, and to introduce new hunters to the outdoors.
Thanks is extended to all that purchased tickets, sponsorships, and provided donations. This annual event is held on the last Saturday of February each year. A special thanks to Grace Ch ristian School for providing their gymnasium for the use of this program.
When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were about 1.3 million wild turkeys in North America.
After decades of dedicated work, that number hit a historic high of almost 7 million turkeys thanks to the tremendous efforts of the dedicated volunteers, professional staff and committed partners.
The mission of the National Wild Turkey Federation is no less urgent today than when it was founded in 1973. What they do in the coming decades will be instrumental in not only enhancing wild turkey populations but also in the continuation of hunting and quality wildlife habitat for countless species.
Twenty million acres. It’s the size of South Carolina and more acreage than 10 individual states. Since tracking began in 1985, the NWTF has conserved or enhanced more than 20 million acres, improving habitat for wild turkeys and other wildlife on a landscape scale.
